     Welcome to Area 1  
       
Our Area is one of 12 regions that span the State for the California Retired Teachers Association   (CalRTA). Each area has an elected Director that serves on the State Board.  These 12 areas serve as inservice and communication bridges to 88 grass roots divisins that contain over 50,000 members.   As indicated by our slogan,we are
retired activist when it comes to protecting or
enhancing benefites for both retired and working eduators.   We are avid supporters of public education and adequte health care for all.

Since 1983 retired teachers and public service employees in California and 14 other states have been adversely effected by the "Windfall Elimi- nation Provision" (WEP) and the  "Government Pension Offset" (GPO) section in Social Secuity.
